Every one of the 88 keys is captured with loop-free stereo samples, preserving not only the natural decay of each note but also the authentic resonance of chords. To appreciate the incredible depth and quality of the sounds in each of the 5 piano engines of KORG Collection - SGX-2, start by playing single low notes to hear how the sound naturally decays without any looping. Next, try playing chords while holding down the damper pedal. The chord resonance and stereo spread remain natural and beautifully balanced, with each note decaying as it should - just as it does on a real piano.
KORG Collection - SGX-2 uses loop-free stereo samples for every key, allowing you to enjoy the piano’s inherently natural sound. The velocity switching system, with up to 12 levels, changes samples according to your touch, letting the emotion in your fingertips be directly reflected in the sound. This enables nuanced, expressive performances with complete control over tone and dynamics.
KORG Collection - SGX-2 features a total of five piano models: the German Grand and Japanese Grand, which were highly praised in the previous SGX-1, plus the Italian Grand, Japanese Small Grand, and Japanese Upright. These represent the finest acoustic pianos used in recording studios and concert halls around the world. You can choose the piano that best fits your preference or the mood of your music, while being able to play every nuance faithfully on each model.
When the damper pedal is pressed, all of the piano strings are free to resonate. When you play a key, the other strings begin to vibrate sympathetically with the note you struck. KORG Collection – SGX-2 accurately captures and reproduces this string resonance, adding even more detail and realism to the piano sound.
The pedal on the left side of a grand piano is the soft pedal. Its technical name is una corda, which literally means “one string.” Normally, a piano hammer strikes two or three strings at once. Pressing the soft/una corda pedal shifts the keyboard and hammer mechanism slightly to the right, causing the hammer to strike one fewer string and producing a softer, more delicate tone. The una corda samples included with the Italian Grand model faithfully reproduce this subtle change in volume and timbre, allowing you to perform with all the authentic pedal actions of a real piano.
KORG Collection - SGX-2 not only delivers high-quality piano sounds but also comes with a wide range of built-in effects. It features three insert effect slots and one send effect slot, with a total of 35 insert effects and five send effects focused on spatial processing, such as reverb. These effects allow you to enhance the premium piano sound, or transform it into entirely new sonic textures, giving you versatile and detailed sound design capabilities.
