In 1981, a veritable bolide appeared among the synthesizers, which was followed by two new, more powerful variants in the years 1982 and 1984, respectively. Invented by a very capable electronics engineer and manufactured by his company in North Germany, these three synthesizers have become global legends. Mark Vail writes on page 68, left column, of his well- known book: Vail, M.: Vintage Synthesizers. Second edition, Backbeat Books: Cupertino/CA, USA, 2000, ISBN 978-0-87930-603-8,"Of all the vintage European synthesizers that made the long trip across the pond to the US, the German-made (...) is probably the best known and most widely used."

Due to the ultramarine blue color (RAL 5002) of the front panels, these synthesizers are also visually unmistakable.

The list of famous users of the North German synthesizers is understandably long. Among others, there are

● Tangerine Dream
Audio sample "Kiew Mission" – the gong sound at 0: 35-0: 39 is indeed from the 1981 synthesizer built in North Germany; it was the inspiration for the intro of a global smash hit and brought Tangerine Dream a friendly phone call of the "King of Pop" who by the time was working on his LP, which should be released in 1982, and who inquired how this gong sound was made Johannes Schmölling.

● Thomas Dolby
Audio sample "Wind Power" – the iconic synthesizer bass setting in at 0:31 is (presumably) made by the "digital modular system" mentioned in.

Inter alia, the North German synthesizers found a worthy successor in the 1993 synthesizer model made by a German company, which is now based in Remagen/Rheinland-Palatinate, Germany.

KApro has taken care of all these synthesizers, created familiar and new sounds with them and brought them to the KORG KRONOS/NAUTILUS: the KApro EXs278 – EXs279 "Legendary Blue" Library Set.
