EXs103 Celtic Pipes

Celtic Pipes featured in this popular Bolder Sounds library include 2 Scottish Highland Pipes, Irish Uilleann Pipes and Pub Pipes (a smaller set of droneless pipes sometimes referred to as Shuttle Pipes). Sampled articulations include flutter and grace notes as well as a number of ornaments from the Scottish Highland Pipes which are triggered by velocity switching. Also included are numerous varieties of drone samples including the signature sound of the strike in of the Highland Pipes.

The heart of this library resides in the programming of the Combis. The drones and the chanter (melodic notes) of the Bagpipes and Uilleann Pipes are treated as separate entities. Using midi filtering, a drone sample may be held by the sustain pedal while freeing up the left hand to use pitch bend and vibrato on the chanter section of the pipe. Also included in the Combis are Pipe Bands featuring various layers of pipes with detuning control assigned to the User Knobs creating a realistic ensemble emulation.
